If you want to buy a new sofa or comfortable chair for your home, then you will not be short on choices. To make your decision a little easier, below you will find an overview of the main types available…
Traditional Sofas : Sitting a few people, and having an armrest at each end which is normally about half the height of the backrest, these types of sofas are a common sight in most living rooms. You can find one in pretty much any color or pattern if you take the time to look around. They are the cheapest type of sofa, though you can also find some very expensive high-end ones too.
Sectional Sofas : This type of sofa is the most versatile, due to the fact that you can break it down and re-arrange it how you like. When placed in a line, sectional sofas will typically be 6-10 feet long, but because they consist of several pieces, you can arrange them in an L-shape, a circular formation, etc. Some have a left arm, some a have a right arm, some have two arms and some have no arms at all. For the creatively minded, they are a great choice.
Sleeper Sofas : As you can guess from the name, this type of sofa can be used to sit on or sleep on. However, rather than having to sleep on top of a normal sofa, these can be unfolded into a proper bed. This is possible because of the type of frame used underneath the padding. They are not really comfortable as either a bed or a sofa, but they are the best option for people on a budget and those who stay in places where available space is at a premium.
Futons : These have been popular in Japan for decades, and have recently become so in the Western world too. They bear a similarity to sleeper sofas, in that they are a sofa which you can also sleep on, but rather than being for a few people to sit on, a futon is mostly just a single sofa chair. The frame is often very light (in fact, sometimes there no frame at all), and the process of turning them from a sofa into a bed takes less than 10 seconds.
Tub Chairs : You will have more than likely seen tub chairs before, even if the name does not seem that familiar. Basically, they are single, upholstered (in one of a wide range of materials) chairs that have the back and arms of the chair merged into once semi-circular piece. They are very comfortable, and ideal for relaxing in whilst watching TV or reading a book. They add a certain elegance to any room, whether you opt for a whole set of them, or just a single one to complement the sofa and furniture that you already have in a room.
